After one of the most unpredictable qualifying processes in history, the Qatar 2022 World Cup is less than three months away, and as usual, the schedule is subject to change. This time, however, the alteration would affect the launch date of this fantastic event since it would disrupt the opening game.
The host country will play Ecuador in the 2022 Qatar World Cup opening game on Sunday, November 20, one day sooner than initially planned.
Senegal was scheduled to play the Netherlands in the tournament’s opening game at 10:00 am GMT on Monday, November 21, but that match will now occur at 4:00 pm GMT on the same day.
After evaluating the tournament and its operational implications, a thorough consultation process, and an agreement with essential partners and the host nation, the decision was made. According to a FIFA statement, the release period will continue to be governed by the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, as previously decided. Tickets will remain valid regardless of the revised date/time, and ticket holders will get proper notification via email that the relevant matches have been rescheduled.
Kaveh Solhekol, chief reporter for Sky Sports News: “The World Cup will begin one day sooner, FIFA has just announced. The World Cup start date may be moved, as they informed people yesterday. The FIFA administration, or rather the FIFA council, the top seven officials in world football, have met ” The World Cup will now begin on Sunday, November 20, with the match between Senegal and the Netherlands, rather than on Monday, November 21, as initially planned. This decision was made jointly by the presidents of FIFA and the six FIFA confederations.
The inaugural event will take place before the first match on November 20, at 7 p.m. featuring Ecuador and the hosts Qatar. The timing of the inauguration ceremony before Qatar’s game seemed a little odd, given that the World Cup was scheduled to begin with a match between Senegal and Netherlands.
FIFA has determined that it is possible logistically to begin the World Cup one day sooner.
As far as European football is concerned, it is undoubtedly highly problematic that the Tournament is being held in the middle of the campaign. Still, FIFA claims this World Cup was initially scheduled to last 28 days rather than the typical 32 days. Now that it will take 29 days, the World Cup will still be shorter. Another thing to note is that everyone agreed on this choice. Although Ecuador was scheduled to play the opening match, the South American federation supported it. UEFA is also in favor of this adjustment. Many will still be upset that the World Cup is being hosted in the winter season.
