De Bruyne started working at KVV Drongen in 1997 when he was six. He spent two years there before joining Gent in 1999. He relocated to Genk a few years later and ultimately made his senior debut. Chelsea added De Bruyne to the team in 2012. He was traded to Vfl Wolfsburg in 2014 when the transaction backfired. De Bruyne developed into a star at the German club, with every elite European team vying for his services. Manchester City ultimately prevailed in the competition and, for his services, paid an estimated cost of £55 million. De Bruyne made his senior debut for Belgium on August 11, 2000, and has since earned more than 50 caps for his nation. He also competed for the third-place squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He made his Wolfsburg debut on January 25, 2014, in a 3-1 home loss to Hannover 96. He was included in Belgium’s World Cup squad on May 13, 2014. De Bruyne contributed to Marouane Fellaini’s equalizer in their tournament opener against Algeria and was awarded man of the match by FIFA. In round 16, Belgium overcame the United States 2-1 thanks to a goal by De Bruyne in the third minute of extra time. In a 6-0 victory over Andorra on October 10, 2014, in UEFA Euro 2016 qualification, De Bruyne scored twice. De Bruyne scored on October 10, 2015, as Belgium defeated Andorra 4-1 to earn a spot in the UEFA Euro 2016 championships. De Bruyne’s first game-winning goal helped Belgium defeat Denmark 2-1 in their second UEFA Euro 2020 encounter on June 17, 2021.
